Fall Standings Will Be Used to Determine Initial Spring Flighting

After extending the deadline to review, enter and correct Fall 2020 game results, MNJ is pleased to post Final Fall 2020 Standings (see document attached below). Flight winners are shown in green in this document. In order to limit the spread of COVID-19, flight winner awards will not be presented for Fall 2020. Final Fall 2020 Standings can also be found on MNJ's Fall 2020 GotSoccer event platform.

MNJ leadership felt it was important to allow additional time for this process since these standings will be the primary driver of initial flighting for Spring 2021.

Unlike previous seasons, when initial flighting was primarily determined by team flighting requests, MNJ will employ a promotion/relegation approach for Spring 2021 driven primarily by the number of points earned in the Fall 2020 season. In most instances, very high performing Fall 2020 teams (e.g. 17-20 points in 10 games) will be promoted 2 flights, high performing Fall 2020 teams (e.g. 13-16 points in 10 games) will be promoted 1 flight, low performing teams (e.g. 4-7 points in 10 games) will be placed 1 flight lower than Fall 2020, and very low performing teams (e.g. 0-3 points in 10 games) will be placed 2 flights lower than Fall 2020. Teams that finished in the middle of these ranges (e.g. 8-12 points in 10 games) will remain in the same flight in most cases.

This approach will be employed on a trial basis for Spring 2021. If successful, MNJ will use it for future Spring seasons. This approach may not necessarily be optimal for Fall flighting as teams tend to experience more turnover from Spring to Fall seasons than from Fall to Spring seasons.

MNJ wishes all of our players, coaches, team managers, club administrators, referees, referee assignors and their families a joyful holiday season and a prosperous and healthy 2021!
